VMU Student Parliament has been elected
Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) students elected representatives of their faculties in the VDU Student Parliament. 50 students applied to participate in the elections, 48 of them were elected to represent the students of their faculty.
Solveiga Skaisgirytė, Chairwoman of the Board of the VMU Student’s Representative Council (SRC), shares that the elections went smoothly from the technical side, and all candidates submitted their documents on time. “As in recent years, the number of candidates is not encouraging, especially in some academic departments there is a tendency not to get involved in the activities of the Student Parliament. We are happy with the activity of the students of the Academy of Education and the Faculty of Informatics, because the number of candidates in these faculties was higher than the available mandates.”
Nearly 500 students participated in the electronic voting held on November 3-6. The Academy of Education and the Faculties of Economics and Management and Humanities voted most actively. “Constantly low number of voting students possibly indicates either a lack of student understanding of the activities of the parliament, or a lack of citizenship among young people. I see this as a challenge that the future parliament should solve”, says S. Skaisgirytė.
